Emergency Vet Technician

Job Description

Pet Urgent Care of Wesley Chapel is currently accepting applications for an after-hours veterinary technician. This position offers between 30-40 hours per week. The right candidate must have emergency or specialty veterinary technician experience, and able to work nights, weekends and holidays. Candidates must have a minimum of 1 years previous urgent care or emergency veterinary experience in order to be considered for this position.

Technicians are an integral part of the team and play a key role developing treatment plans and patient care. We are seeking Technicians who will serve as patient advocates and be resources for our clients. The ideal candidates will be detail-oriented and proficient in the following:

  • Triage, Admitting, monitoring and discharging patients
  • Dispensing and explanation of medications
  • Control painful, anxious, often fractious animals with gentle restraint
  • Blood collection from cephalic, saphenous, and jugular veins
  • Assisting in surgical cases (inducing and monitoring anesthesia)
  • Performing venous and urinary catheterization
  • Obtaining vital signs
  • Proper digital radiograph techniques
  • Follow directions from our DVMs with and without supervision
  • Lift at least 50lbs unaided (over 50 lbs with assistance)
  • Perform basic math conversions
  • Understand medical terminology and procedures
  • Medical record keeping
  • Ability to perform in-house laboratory diagnostics

Working hours are shift based and targeted to provide an excellent work-life balance; however, this is an after-hours practice so late nights, weekends and holidays are required.
